Default quilting a king sized quilt on a queen sized frame

Please forgive me but this may be a really stupid question! I'm considering purchasing a quilting frame that maxes out at 96 inches. If I wanted to quilt anything wider than that, why couldn't I fold a few inches over on one end and roll it up for quilting then when finished reload the quilt with the other side folded in a few inches and complete the part that wasn't quilted on the first round? Obviously, I don't understand and I'm missing something in the whole process!!

If you do that the tension will be way off across the quilt. The folded part will be much thicker so you won't be able to get the proper tension on the rest of the quilt. To quilt a larger quilt, quilt the body of the quilt, then quilt the borders separately and join them using a quilt as you go technique.

I quilted a king sized quilt on a 9.5" frame. i think i did it the way you described. it wasn't a panto... i did each of the blocks separately. i don't recommend doing this frequently, but it was my daughter's wedding quilt... you know, a labor of love.
