    Default rotary cutter

I have 2 rotary cutters. The blades do not turn. I have taken the cutters apart and re-installed the blades numerous times. My husband even tried. We have loosened the nut holding the blade on and tightened it. I can't get them to turn. One cutter is an Olfa. I don't know the brand of the other one. Should they be oiled? Have you ever had this problem? What should I do? Thanks.

I usually put a drop of oil when I change the blade, I think I put it on the inside. On your Olfa cutter, do you still have that funny looking washer that fits between the blade and the screw??

It's odd that both are having the same issue. First, carefully make sure that you only have one blade installed. Next, some cutters need to have a specific cut pattern around the hole that the screw goes in. Some have 0,1, 2 or more notches. Makes a difference in some cutters, but not others. As Maniac posted, make sure you have all the parts and try a drop of oil.

It works better if you don't tighten it too much. Try that.

You can write/call/email the Olfa company to request replacement
parts such as the nuts, washers, and shank piece.

I have 2-4 of EACH size of Olfa cutters and they sent me enough
parts to replace ALL my cutters NO CHARGE.

Also, the blades aren't meant to be "free wheeling", that is, they won't spin freely on the handle if you try to just spin them. They are only meant to turn as pressure is applied when cutting.

Have you changed the blade on both before?

I went to their website once to make sure I was putting the blade in properly. The washer thingee has to be in a certain direction.
