Default binding width when using minky and batting

Would it be a good idea to use a 3 inch cut binding width and then folding it double when using minky for the back. I'm afraid if I used 2 1/2 inch width it would be too tight. Any pros for doing this or cons?

I've used 2 1/2" binding on Minky backed quilts ( I always include batting) but, I prefer thin binding on my quilts. If you like a wider binding you certainly could use 3". Are you applying it with a wider than 1/4" seam? If so that would make a wider one easier to deal with. I always used the standard 1/4" application so did not need my binding to be wider. ( I actually generally use 2 1/4" wide strips but do add that extra 1/4" when using flannel, batting, Minky combination. )

Yes I would use a wider seam than 1/4 inch. I'm just wondering if the wider width would look nicer with minky, I'm also using 80/20 batting.

I use 2 1/2 binding on my quilts with minky backing. Worked fine for me. I sew the binding to the front and then hand sew to the backing. Actually, I use 2 1/2 binding for most all of my quilts. Have tried the 2 1/4, but prefer the 2 1/2. Since I always seem to have plenty of binding left over, I decided if it was all 2 1/2 I can use it as a bonus sometime, either as binding or cut up for a scrap quilt. Dreamer that I am, I haven't made on scrap quilt yet but you never know when I just might !

I use 2.5 for everything. It seems to be the easiest/best for me

I use 2.5 inches for most of my bindings and have used it on minky with batting, has always worked fine.

I just bound a Minky backed quilt with a 2.25" binding. I think a 2.5" binding might work better, but mine looked fine too. I used a very scant 1/4" seam.

2 1/2 should be fine with the standard 1/4" deal allowances. I use 2" on my quilts with Warm and Natural batting, quilt cotton top and backing. Judges look for the same amount of binding, front and back. I can do a nice snug binding with 1 7/8" binding, and use it on small quilt, miniatures, etc.
