I made my bionic gear bag on my Singer 15-91. It will sew through anything! Seems like you might need to use a smaller needle, and not a universal needle, something with a sharp point.
I have never sewn on the Singer 237 or the Pfaff 130 so I cannot comment on them, but I do know my old Singers (15-91, 301, 201, 503) will plow through almost anything! No tired motors at all. I wouldn't get a Singer 101, though. It does seem to have a wimpy motor. At least mine did!
if you consider an industrial, check to see what needles they take before you purchase.

ANd I have a 401a. When I got it, I put it through a test drive with a Layer slice (10"x10") of denim. I folded it over and over and over, it sewed through 6 layers. Next morning DH used it to mend one of his denim jackets. Got it at an estate sale and worth every penny. That 401 is 1958.

I have an industrial Singer which will sew through 13 layers. It was second hand when I bought it in 1975. I used it for 25 years for making loose overs for my clients!

I have the Juki HZL-F600. It is the best machine I have ever owned. Due to the feed dogs it can go thru thick fabrics and can start at the edge of fabric without getting caught in the feed dogs.

I have a Singer 401A and we all refer to it as "the tank". It will sew awnings, car seat covers, mend tents, etc. It is 60 years old or thereabouts as I've been married that long and it has never been in hospital but once. Still going strong.
My fear of the industrial machines is that they sew so fast! I don't need 1500 stitches to fly beneath my presser foot.

I would not buy a singer over a Janome! My experience with singers have left me with a sour taste! Janome is a great brand and I've bought the HD Janome 1000 from Costco! I had posted that I decided not to buy it; but in the long run I have, and can't wait to try it out!
