i think the difference is jennie doan's method puts the bias around the outside of the block.

Once I used El Burns method, thats all I use now. You use large squares right sides togather. Draw an x and sew 1/4 in down each side. Cut in half both ways then on lines. 8 hst. Go to Quilt in a Days web site to see it done. No bias edges.
