    I really don't worry about the backing color going with the top. They are seen separately. If I have a color in the top that I want to use, then I pick that.

    Have you checked Sew Batik, if you're looking for a batik backing? They have a lot of choices. Other Options include Backside Fabrics and Thousands of Bolts, if you want choices.

    Great looking top! Is that hand appliqued? If your DIL likes red, the warm burgundy family with a peach binding and/or quilting thread would be wonderful. It doesn't have to be a batik fabric to have a mottled look.

    No applique at all. It is printed blocks from a line called Hoffman Bali Batik. Thank you for your suggestion. I like it.

    (The fabric that you have bordering the blocks would be my choice.)
