I fear you are 'lost' to the collecting bug. It is a devastating thing....but terribly good fun.

Alas!! I fear you are correct.

I was outbid on the other machines... they ended up WAY beyond what I'm willing to pay!
But... bad me... I went back... and there are now 3 toys and a "real" machine that I am currently the high bidder on.
<sigh>
Does anyone know if there is a VSM (Vintage Sewing Machines) Anonymous intervention anywhere?

I don't know, I feel like acquiring an old machine is a rescue. It's like rescue dogs - if you have the heart for it, you end bringing home as many as you are allowed. Sewing machines poop less though.

My biggest issue is that I over estimate my ability to repair them. Not even thinking about tackling electricals right now, and i can't afford to pay some to do it. It's possible that I don't even need anything done to them, but I worry about it. So, I need to be cautious about adopting too many that I can't properly care for.

Yes, I'm with you. I thought I had done a great job cleaning up an old 201-2. It still needs some work on the shellac, but I thought I'd done a great job otherwise. Then I found out I should have changed out those little doohickeys in the grease cups. I'm thinking I'll never get that back together if I take it apart.

But you're right. They poop less.
