The two blocks on the right, second and third ones down seem lopsided. What would happen if you took the left side of the third block down and matched it to the two above it? The fabrics and colors are lovely.

I really, really like the layout you have pictured. The subtle secondary designs that are forming will probably become more obvious once all you blocks are sewn together. But I really like how some are forming a square in a square, an X and the chevrons. You can then decide if you want to emphasize those patterns with quilting.

Thanks to all for the helpful comments! The intended recipient has seen it and likes the layout. I will be tweaking a few of the spots where it's not quite as it should be for best continuity.

Definitely take pictures of your alternate layouts before you decide. I've found that to be really helpful.

I do this too. I'm not sure why it helps, but it does.

Red face Three Dudes jelly roll quilt

I agree with "quiltsRfun" suggestion about using the patterns as a border. Also, you could make a "Tic Tac Toe" design in the center so they work together with the border mentioned. Sketch a "Tic Tac Toe" design on paper and see how it will look. Rather than have three "X" designs vertically or horizontally in one row, make it more interesting by 'scattering' the blocks in a T-T-T design. Example: 1 "X" top row; 1 "X" on either end of the middle row; 1 "X" bottom; another "X" elsewhere, as if a player was looking to make a score but not quite there. All the other blocks have color of fabric that is not in your design. Just a thought. If you have a relationship with God Almighty, ask for His help. He has never let me down. Fourteen quilts I made in 2014 were His suggestions. He told me and I followed His lead.
