I was sewing some slipcovers and the needle locked up and will not turn. What could have happened? My husband is pretty handy with motors, can he fix it or is it a repairman fix?

When I turn hand wheel, needle does nothing.

I can loosen hand wheel and bobbin winder works, tighten up and needle does nothing.

Check under the slide and see if you have a mess of thread/fluff under it. Look from underneath the base also.
lube will help after you get the drive train moving.

Is the needle stuck in fabric and down low position? Can you get the bobbin and bobbin case out? I've had that happen once (or maybe more, LOL). It takes some firm but gentle rocking the tightened hand wheel to get the needle out of the fabric. I may have even released the needle clamp screw.

Well duh, it was at a tangle in the case. I couldn't see it until I broke it apart. She's been sitting a couple of years, I had to fiddle with getting threaded just right, but she's sewing great now. I need to buy some lube though. Thanks!

So fun when it is easy. Enjoy your victory. And do use sewing machine oil. not 3 in 1.

I would take the work area apart. Raise the presser foot, undo the needle or the screw to remove it. I've done that then often have had to give it a good cleaning. You may have to cut the thread away from the fabric.

Yes, I use Singer brand oil. I have two Featherweights also. I love my old girls, and Mary(15-91) has been neglected for too long. I got frustrated with her and didn't have time to fiddle with her that day and I closed her up and switched machines. So after all this time she still purrs like a kitten.
