Definitely! Newer fabrics fray so much more and I talking QS fabric like Moda and Northcott! All made offshore now!

I am happy with all my recent LQS purchases. They merge well with my stash collected over 20 years.

Compared some current Maywood "shadowplay" to some I'd bought earlier and the difference was amazing. The color was consistent, but the quality, alas, not. Sad because they're both so pretty, even now.

I have some old fabrics from the late 80s / early 90s (unused, which means I have UFOs that are 30 years old!), and some of them are thicker than my best fabrics from today but some are thinner. I have some recent purchases where the fabric quality was just terrible, and I don't think even the worst fabric from the 1980s was that poorly made. That's why I stick to LQS fabrics now, because some of the low-priced stuff is great, but a small fraction of it is nearly unusable, and I can't always tell until after I've bought it.

In general I'm happy with the quality of the fabrics available for quilting. I'm really impressed with the crispness and vibrancy of the dyes, and that's one of the things I really look for to differentiate fabrics.

As for quality of clothing these days ... I don't think it's even possible to buy 14oz-denim women's jeans any more, and that used to be standard. I am patching my old ones.

Not to be "contrary", but I have not noticed this. i buy mostly reproduction fabrics and the quality seems OK to me.

I sell previously owned Fabrics so all of mine are from sometime earlier. But I see a mix of quality good Fabrics from the past and also some flimsy loose woven ones. As I recall there was a time when you could buy Fabrics at discount stores and they weren't always the best.

I have noticed that my older fabrics are better quality too.

When I did deep into my stash there is definitely a difference in the quality between my older fabric and the newer fabric. The older fabric is thicker. I have a batik that is about 10 years old, there is a huge difference between the thickness of the fabrics.
