The link presents a FW machine. Serial number would give the correct date for that machine.

As to the OP, I'm confused. i thought Sphinx and FW were different machines.

They are. That's what Glenn was saying. I'm not sure, but I think a Sphinx is either a 27 or a 66, but either way, it's a full size sewing machine made of cast iron. It is very heavy (40 lb range). A featherweight is usually a 221 (I think there are a few 222s.) and is a small, lightweight, portable sewing machine (16 lb range). It's made from aluminum. Hence, it's called a featherweight.

Edited to add: There is a guy on ebay who is repainting FWs and putting Red Eye, Sphinx, etc. decals on them. He's getting some big prices for them, too. They never came that way, though.

bkay, thank you for the clarification. might the sphinx be a 127 model? and even more thanks for the heads up about the repainter doing a mashup of FW and other Singer decals. good to know.

purplefiend -- It was a typo as at http://www.quiltingboard.com/vintage...e-t287541.html it says 1937 and definitely is a FW

Taratunafish, Sphinx is a decal set that originally only on 27s according to ISMACS until they started making the 15s with a knockoff Sphinx decal set. In my opinion it is a shame that anyone would put red-head or sphinx decals on a FW.

kayluvs2quilt Did you get a picture?

Janey - Neat people never make the exciting discoveries I do.

ETA the first link is a FW (221 machine) and the other links were to show the 27 and 15 Sphinx decals

Janey this isn't true. If you google 'Singer model 15' you'll see some with the Sphinx decals. I don't know why ISMACS has never put any pics up of them.

Needlebar says Sphinx was used on IF, 15, 27, & 127 models.
