I have a quilting machine I named flowing stitch and call her FLo, I have and embroidery machine which is and Inovis 5000 Laura Ashley Isadore and I call her Izzy, I have a black featherweight I call blackie.

I named my very first machine, a used Necci (sp?), "Costura"-Spanish for seam. Mom always named her cars. One was an orange suv she called "The Kitchen" because of the bright orange wallpaper she had in the kitchen at the time, mid 60's. Another car was "Golda", another was "Abe" (a Lincoln).....she was very creative. I currently don't have names for my machines, nor my car. Maybe, after this thread, I'll start, in her memory.

yes. i call them grammas' featherweight, the phaff, the old necchi, the bu necchi, & my favorite (because of who is using it ) the craigs list necchi.

I only name my machines that I've bonded with. I've others that are waiting their turn. Here's my list.
1936 Featherweight is named for my grandmother Matilda. My second 1936 Featherweight is Emma for a sewing friend who passed away near the same time I acquired her. Yes, twins, one for home and one for the RV.
1928 Singer 66 Red Eye treadle after her only owner Amelia, who was my BQF husband's mothers. BQF chose to keep her mother's treadle.
1957 Pfaff 130 is "The Tank".
Singer 99 with nice bentwood case found in Washington state for free is Martha.
Blue Singer circa 70's? inherited from my mil is Tiffany for her blue coloring.
Janome 8900 is Miss Persnickity for her talent at balking at any utility sewing. Good thing I have other choices for such things because she free motions so nicely!

Just started my vintage machine collection and coffin tops. Had never seen them before and first one was ALVAH! Looked it up, Hebrew name, male or female. Decided to keep the name on it and name my first treadle Alvah... looked up the name a second time, found out that there was an ALVAH sewing machine company in Chicago. Will still name her Alvah....

Occasionally, I will admit to calling my machines (bad) names when they are uncooperative.

Yes, I do name my machines. My best friend is "Sunshine" (Bernina230). My Bernina serger is "Ben" (short for benevolence, as the machine was practically given to me). My Mercury industrial, who has a big "M" on the end cap, is "Max." My Singer treadle is "Grandmother." She belonged to my Great Grandmother, who insisted on being called "Grandmother" instead of "Grandma." The old metal Kenmores that I rescue and give away are "Kenny" and "Nellie." My 60 pound Kenmore is "Carol," named after her previous owner.

I still need to name my old 930 Bernina and my HandiQuilter.
