No Sewing Until You Quilt It

I have used this method a few times. The only issues I seem to find are when folding the material over for very small or tricky pieces. However, I do feel it is a great technique and I know I will get better with it as time goes on. See attached picture for reference. The only issue I am having now with this quilt is the type of stitching around each piece I would like to use. The last quote I used a satin stitch but for this quilt I would like to go lighter or almost invisible. I ordered the video from Leah Day's website as I was trying to figure out the best way to work an art quilt. I still have many techniques to figure out but this one so far is simple to me for the most part. I am really new to quilting so if anyone has any suggestions on the type of stitching I should use that would be wonderful!
