Anyone see my post in the Main called String- Aling? I've simply got to clean my quilt room and I'm suffering from scraps. I want to make a string quilt so I rationalize I need it all. Tell me really...what's too short, or narrow? I worry about bias cuts. I really need to make room for my swaps and secret pal stuff!!! How to tame my scraps? Not so sure about Bonnie Hunter's ways...no scrap seems too small for her, that's why I'm targeting string quilt size.

I save mine similar to Bonnie H. Just in sizes that I personally use. For instance, I'm making a lot of flying geese using my 5" charms with the method that makes 4 at a time. I need 2 3/4" squares for the small squares when making those, so I cut a bunch of scraps in colors I will need in that size. Anything longer than 8-10" gets left as a strip. I save strings that are at least 1" wide. Before I cut my scraps into useable sizes, they just sat and reproduced. Once I cut them all up, I was inspired to make something. My scrappy Granny Square quilt was my first result. To me they are more inspiring when already cut.

Thanks to Verna and Faintly. I am intrigued by the geese idea. I love geese...goose patterns!

Well, all my stuff is ordered for my secret pal. Secret pal, in your state it is unlawful to let a dog pursue a bear or bobcat at any time and animals are banned from mating publicly within 1,500 feet of a tavern, school, or place of worship.

I have found a great use for scraps. Paper piecing is using up so many of my small scraps.

I wonder if I should save my smaller scraps. Just not sure what is too too small. I hate waste though.

Hey Red- I wish I knew the answer to the scrap question. My biggest influence on scraps, mercy me, has been my sister. She is very careful with her scraps and is making the world's most amazing scrap quilt. She started it long before Bonnie Hunter was a household word. She has scraps incorporated in this "thing" from every quilt she ever made. Many pieces are less than a inch square! Tiny triangles, even! This "thing" could drape over a small house it's gotten so big.

Cutting scraps today...but I just did this a couple of months ago and had them ALL done! Guess I've created a bunch more... Haven't even touched the vintage sheet scraps, not sure if I'm ready for that job!!

Crispy that sounds amazing. Have any pics to share?

Faintly I'm with you. Just when I think I'm getting them cut so I feel in control.....poof! More appear!
