If you don't use the flannel, what do you do with it? Could have a lot of flannel sitting on the shelf.
I've had the same thing happen. When I buy flannel I wash it without softener and I dry it in the dryer. If it pills, then I won't use it. My best luck has been with Joann's Snuggle brand - they also have a brand call Nursery that has done well for me I can't remember the name of the one I get at Beverly's Fabrics - it's marbled and I like it a lot.

Flannelette can work nicely as a batting.
I've used it in runners and toppers and the like as well as in one of my favourite bed quilts.

One of DH's favorite TV quilt is a top and bottom flannel, polyester high loft batting, tied. It is warm and light weight. He and Miss Kitty share it. I made it for me years ago out of flannel that "pilled" when washed. The two sides don't match very well, but he doesn't care. ❤️
