No matter what you use check out prices on Marshalls dry goods. You do pay freight but they are good sized rolls I got one 90x30yds and I can hardly move it around.

I don't know why you don't like puffy poly batting with longarm quilting. I personally like puffy quilts and have no difficulty quilting with puffy poly batting on my longarm at all. It can appear quite 'flat' while on the table but puffs back up when it is relaxed after taking off the table.

I know that the Charity group in my club uses polyester and I believe the QOV group I belong to uses Warm n Natural or Polyester. It becomes a personal and economic choice like the others are saying.

I usually piece together all kinds of odds and ends of battings. I don't long arm the quilts though.

Janice, I also order a roll of batting from Walmart. Cotton and polyester, 60 inches wide, I think 20 yards for $45. and they ship it to my home for free. I could pick it up from the store but finding it on my front porch is so much more convenient. Of course, if your charity quilts are larger (mine are 40-45 x 50-55) then go with the roll that Texas Sunshine suggested.

This is a good question...I find batting so expensive. I read a quilter state that the polyester batting is abrasive and wears out the fabric . It acts like steel wool against the fabric. So I quit using it. I will investigate the Pelon brand .
To purchase new flannel is expensive here too. Canada.

Puffy poly batting shifts while you are long arm quilting. I suppose that I could get good results after enough attempts to do it, buy who needs the headache?
