Information on her website says the ruler and book are 34.99 with in class students receiving a 10% discount. I would maybe pay what the guild is charging for the class and don't go, thereby saving the $34.99.
I had to do that once, I paid the 25.00 for the class, but did not want to pay the extra for the "special ruler and pattern set". Especially after seeing what was involved, I knew I did not want to do it much less pay a fee for it. I just contacted the program chair and told her I could not attend but to keep my payment anyway since it was short notice. No problem! Much more careful now in what I sign up for lol.

I thought it was stated that you can use your own rulers. I am going to take a couple sizes of square rulers that I have and then may not need to purchase her ruler.

Email the instructor. There is a place that says contact us on the website you listed. I don't want any more specialty rulers either.

I have always gotten along with using my basic rulers for any class I have taken; even though, the class said a "special" ruler was needed. Maybe this would work for you also.

I'm very hesitant to sign up for classes that require specialty anything. I want to learn a technique vs a specific block. But that is me. Generally I think I am creative (not)/intelligent enough to adapt most things. When you are dealing with specific wedge measurements...to me...a whole different issue. When dealing with general square measurements and/or typical angle measurements....the rulers I already own are generally sufficient.

Maybe call the quilt shop and cancel, they should refund your money. I signed up for a class at a LQS then decided it would be above my skill level. I went in to cancel and was told they don't refund money for classes. I asked them to show me the refund policy. No policy is in writing so they refunded it, otherwise I would have a taken a store credit which would of been fine with me. I live in Ocala and wish there were more quilt shops here.

In her explanation of what a 'dash' quilt was she mentioned 'compatible' 8 1/2 and 4 1/2 inch squares so if you have rulers that size, I think you'd be good to go. If it were me; personally, I'd "make it work" (for me). I am with you; hate having to buy yet another specialty ruler.

Well, I live in Ocala, rather on the outskirts of Ocala, too, but I'm not signing up for a class cost of $35, plus being required to purchase $35 worth of rulers, etc. -- my income just doesn't stretch far enough for that. And, that's precisely why I don't sign up for classes. Sorry, but that's almost twice as much as I pay for a concert by a very well known group at the opry house in south Marion County. I think I would enjoy the concert more than the class! No offense to anyone intended!

Shloe is a very kind understanding person, I'm sure if you explained the ruler wasn't in your budget , she would work with you. She used to be in my guild and has always been lovely to work with.
