Try checking out Maple Island Quilts-BQ "Big Blocks". I have made several for graduation gifts and baby gifts. They go together very fast and look beautiful.

I love all these ideas but finally settled on Double Slice Layer Cake. I found an MSQ video but no printed pattern. It was easy enough to figure out. With 6 extra 10 inch squares and borders, our group can make 2 quilts from one Layer Cake pack. And it will be easy to flip n sew. Thank you all for your wonderful suggestions.
