I'm trying to reduce the strain on my shoulders from carrying a purse but I need to carry stuff with me, so I thought centering it on my back would be the next best thing. Started looking for a backpack purse but nothing is really exciting me. They are too big and bulky or too juvenile and I'm way past that stage. Any suggestions for a pattern to make my own?

I went with a cross body purse to reduce strain on my shoulder when I had a pinch nerve in my neck. I bought a quilted lug bag and it is working well. There are lots of styles and mine was only about $30 .

Check out Ameribag Healthy Back Bag. I have 3 of them and LOVE them. I carry them on my shoulder, but you can also carry them across the back. I've have the x-small, small and medium. Good luck with your search. Purse purchases are something you have to try out for yourself.

I have a backpack purse that I love when I am out with grandchildren (2 free hands) or on trips. I do not like it when I am shopping and need to get in it frequently, especially if I have a bulky coat on. I also find it awkward to carry from one shoulder. I need to look for a different design.

A cross body bag is much more convenient than a backpack purse ... and much safer from my experience. I limited what I carry (reducing the weight) to just what I need for the trip or the day so that I could carry a smaller bag. I make my own to my specific needs. I found a free pattern online and used YouTube tutorials to improve my skills.

I would suggest the crossbody bag and not carrying more than you really need. A backpack that doesn't sit correctly on your back can be just as bad as a purse hanging from one shoulder. It puts a lot of strain on your back. I carry a purse but just shift it from one shoulder to the other when I'm carrying it all day (as in Quilt Festival).
