    Default Bench runner

We've had a colder than normal winter here this year. Our dining room table has 4 chairs & a bench & have some chair pads on the chairs but nothing on the bench. DH draped a quilt over the bench about 2 weeks ago so he didn't have to sit on the cold wooden bench. That got me to thinking.....we need a bench runner. So I measured the bench top, went to my stash & made a quilted bench runner. I made it from a whole piece of fabric (no blocks or design) & then put elastic on the back ends so it just slips over the edge of the bench on each end. It slipped around a bit when we sat on it so I just slipped a piece of that rubberized shelf lining between the runner & the bench & that held it down just great. Can't post a picture as my computer has been in the shop since the end of December & don't know how to post from DH's computer. The runner works great & I'm really happy with it. It's like a table runner only attaches with the elastic.

Sounds like a great fix for slippery seat.

Great idea. Always nice when we come up with new design/ uses for our quilting. Now you could make more ( bench runners) and switch them out now & then. I bet it’s much nicer year around to sit on a little padding instead of just the wood. You could make seasonal ones and holiday ones.

I have always wanted to make a runner for the piano bench. At least a Christmas one. On my list!

Be careful of anything with rubber on a wood surface. The pressure of someone sitting on the runner can cause the rubber to adhere to the finish of the bench.

I agree with this statement. I have also found that rubberized products tend to change the color of the wood---at least on my wooden floors.
