I too use flannel sheets and have never had a problem with them as a matter of fact I perfer slightly used ones that have been laundered. I use cotton sheets sometimes for backing. I have bought the 1500 TC to use for backing. works for me. I hand quilt so they are easy to use.

Thank you for your response. Wasn't sure if quilting on back would work. I'll try it!

I have even used a flannel sheet, dyed to match the quilt top. I used a beautiful “ocean blue” dye on a prodominately blue quilt. Easy Peasey. I glue basted it, and quilted it on my DSMwith no problems.

I've used flannel sheets many times for backing and it wears as well if not better than some of the pieced fronts.

Usually in January, but I haven't really shopped a white sale in a while. It seems that I now prefer to have one set of sheets (flannel) for winter and one set of cotton sheets for summer. Put another way, I have one set to wash, and one to 'wear' on the bed.

Not brands, but I have purchased at Sears and at Penney's.

If you use flannel backing do you still use batting too? Just curious here in S. CA it gets hot thinking of making light weight quilts what would be the best way?

Hi all
Thought I would post a follow up. Just purchased two sets (twin and full) of Cuddle Duds flannel sheets from Kohls. They were on clearance and with discounts of 20% off, free shipping, 5.00 kohls rewards that they gave me, I spent a total of $36.79 for both sets! Some days, bargains just drop in your lap. After while, I think I will try to calculate how much "yardage" I got.
So if you are in need of flannel sheets, Kohls has a good clearance going on now.
Thanks again for all the feed back on my question.
Murphy
PS. bbeyes: I do plan to do one throw without batting using just the flannel backing. I think it will be perfect for a lightweight not so warm quilt for my sister. I have done a fleece backing without batting and it worked just fine.
