Default Irish chain baby quilt

Just finished this baby quilt for my niece and my soon to arrive great nephew. She requested simple white, cream, or light gray. This is what I decided to do. The white is a bright white and the gray is Moda “Grunge”. I quilted it with an icy blue Floriani thread. The quilting is definitely utilitarian since we are packing up to move 1200 miles away, and I wanted to finish this before everything got packed. The border has some SID, stars, and loops plus his name. I never sew anything by hand that can be done by machine, so I finished the binding with a feather stitch. Note the shadow in the middle is just because it is being held oddly.

Nice finish. I love the binding stitch. I may have to copy your idea.

Great quilt for a little boy. Gray continues to be a popular color...nicely done.

Thanks folks. The mom was vague about colors, just that she preferred pale, low volume colors like white, cream, and gray. As for the binding, sometimes I use a three step zigzag, but the feather stitch is my favorite. It is very forgiving. I also do a number of Quilts for Kids donation quilts. Their rules are no hand stitching, including the binding, so I have a lot of excuses for no hand work.
