I don't know if it's my personality (which is very strong LOL) or my attitude (which is don't mess with me), but I have never encountered any of those comments, personally. I've certainly heard them, read them, etc. but never directed at me.
To the newbies - nothing you create is wrong. Yes, there will be mistakes - mastering a perfect 1/4 inch seam takes practice! Not cutting off your points - still happens to the best of us! I have been quilting for 15+ years and just recently finished paper piecing over 1000 flying geese. I trimmed them all (with a rotary cutter) on the Seaam line LOL ... not the 1/4 inch line. There will be no points on these geese - maybe flying blocks???
Have patience with yourself and enjoy your craft - it's supposed to be fun!

Another type of quilt police I can't tolerate are the ones that let you know the new quilting ruler you bought was silly and a waste of money when the old worn out ruler they use will do the same thing (if you stand on your head with one arm behind your back). Same with new quilting tools. There will always be some that wear the I"m Cheap badge with pride. I stay far away from them. No fun at all.

I am reading about the "Quilt Police" and turned around and found my "Quilt Police" inspecting my quilting supplies. Just had to share them with you, Thelma is on the right and Louise is on the left, they are sisters we adopted from Purrfect Pals.

You need to listen very carefully when someone uses the term "should be". Sometimes there is a good reason(better method) behind the "should be" but usually it's used by people who know nothing about creativity.

Oh yes, when showing a quilt of mine I had on my longarm, the comment was "It's really nice, too bad you used such poor fabric"

I went to a guild meeting and didn't bring my machine because I hauling around a large leg cast and that was enough. I opened up a donated machine and they were horrified that anyone would use it - it was a Singer 404 in great shape. Good thing I didn't take my 301. I did take my Singer 301 to a FMQ class and the instructor was quite rude. Well guess what machine did everything I asked her to while the instructor had to help everyone else fiddle with the tensions on their plastic wonders?? Whoops, now I sound like the quilt police. Nope, if it sews a nice seam and doesn't cause the user a good deal of trouble, I don't care what machine a person uses.

And, Sprice, quilt guilds are not full of quilt police. They are full of the same people that you run into here. I love my quilt guild and the bee that I attend twice a month. Such nice ladies.

LOL I'm sure I'll figure something out to do with them! Just not right now, I'm too busy laughing at my foolishness. You would have thought I would have clicked in after the first few? Nope!
