I did take my Singer 301 to a FMQ class and the instructor was quite rude. Well guess what machine did everything I asked her to while the instructor had to help everyone else fiddle with the tensions on their plastic wonders?? Whoops, now I sound like the quilt police. Nope, if it sews a nice seam and doesn't cause the user a good deal of trouble, I don't care what machine a person uses.
I had a similar thing happen at a class I took; brought my Singer machine in and had someone ask what machine I normally used at home since the Singer had to be my "traveling machine."

My pet peeve is an instructor who overly critiques others in a negative manner, ignore some student because they aren't a skilled. Many times there is more than one way to do things and different people need directions that fit their way of thinking.
That is why if I take a class I do a 'sample' of the product. That way I can adjust to how I work better.

Oh, you sew by machine? You’re not ( really) a Quilter.

At least if the Quilt Police put you in Quilt Jail, you know it will be nicely decorated and comfortable!!

What the Quilt Police don't know is that there are as many ways to make a quilt as there are people that make them. Quilts are your own expression or whatever you happen to have to work with. Use your imagination.

One of my first quilts I made I put it in a local quilt show. It wasn't near half nice in the construction of it. Imagine my shock when it won Viewer's Choice! Everyone loved the colors and the way I set my blocks (wonky was just beginning to be popular then). If I had decided to let my not so great sewing skills determine my entry I would have missed out on a great experience. I remember seeing many quilters look at my quilt and point to the places I knew I messed up. I hope I gave others the thought that If she can enter that, I can enter mine.
