Default Help! Lone star quilt, crooked diamonds

I am working on a lone star style quilt. This is my second time and my diamonds keep coming out uneven. One side is about 17” and the other about 13”. I can’t figure out what I am doing wrong. I have used 1/4” throughout the process. Ironing the fabric helped a little. I am still pretty new to sewing. Any help would be appreciated!

My first thought is since those diamonds are cut on the bias, perhaps from "ironing" they have been stretched out of shape......

A 4" difference from one side to the other is a lot. Are you using the strip-set method or are you using individual diamonds? As Geri above says, are you pressing or are you stretching the bias by using steam and ironing?

I just finished one and what the others said is true. There are lots of bias to those diamonds. I used a lot of starch and no steam.

Could we have a picture so we could look at the pieces you are talking about? And which pattern are you following?

Are you heavily starching. It is vital for bias

I would agree. I had a similar problem with a friendship braid-2 strips were fine, the third not so much. I managed to stretch it so that while it appeared to be the right length, it was actually a few sections short. yeah, managed to stretch it that much
