Default The Queen is dead

The Queen of Soul, that is. Aretha Franklin. I spent all today quilting a customer quilt and listening to the news, and periodically wiping tears away.

What a voice! What a role-model for strong women! An activist and civil rights leader! I don't think any girl who "came of age" in the late 60's/early 70's can not know all the lyrics--Natural Woman, Angel, Freedom, Chain of Fools, and the list goes on and on. She was the sound track to every slumber party, the sound track to every girls "cruising" on a weekend; the sound track later in college to every "girls' night out"; she provided the rhythms for every dance---R.I.P Aretha--you are not forgotten!

I knew something was wrong due to her weight loss this year. Very sad that cancer has cut short another life.

I don't remember her songs that much. I do know she was a celebrated singer but not the type music my friends and I cared for in high school or college days. Prayers to her family.

Very sad. She had a beautiful voice. I was too busy raising two of my kids in the 60's to do much more than listen to her records. I don't recall hearing she was sick, so when I heard on the radio she had died, I was shocked.

She was the Queen of Soul.

That insidious disease takes so many people and detection is so difficult. I lost a cousin at 48 and he and his wife were raising 3 lovely girls.
Her legacy is huge and she won't be forgotten.

I just loved her voice, she could really sing. She will be missed but her music will go on and on.
