Kalama, thank you for the pictures of your beautiful quilt. I love those colors in it! So, did you spray baste the front to the back to keep the two from slipping when you quilted it? I suppose if I didn't use any batting of any sort I wouldn't have to do the quilt as you go method because I should be able to maneuver it in my small harp space on my domestic sewing machine with no problem. These are the things I'm still pondering after I get all my blocks made. Thanks again!

I sent it out anything bigger than 40" it goes to the quilter. I've done a lot of machine quilting over the years, I think since about 1989, and never enjoyed a minute of it. I make double sided quilts so I always get two for the price of one and they take 1/2 the space to store.
I've seen many members here machine quilt big quilts on their domestic vintage machines so know it can be done.
Looking forward to seeing your project.

Thanks for everyone's input with this. I've now got info I can sort out to make my decision. I'll really be glad when this quilt is done as I think I've done to much "over thinking" of it from the very beginning. I think that's why it turned into a UFO...I just got tired of thinking about each step & not being able to make up my mind what I wanted to do. Well, this time I'm going to finish it!

Wool is the light weight batt. I couldn't believe the difference after I had mine finished. And they say wool is warm in winter and cool in summer. That has something to do with the air pockets in the wool.

I have 3 quilts I made without any batting-queen size for our bed in Phoenix. First one I quilted on my DSM just following lines up and down. The last 2 were quilted on my HQ16 I quilted them exactly the same as if it had batting. Here is one on our bed,
