What pattern are you suing for the quilt? Where will the background fabric be placed in the design?

In your first picture, the fourth fabric -gray with small dots print- might work too. While the black will be a great contrast, it might be harsh with the delicate yellow and white fabrics.

Do you have enough of the gray to use for the background? Can you make a sample block first and then decide?

Love those fabrics! That background works but I think a very pale gray like the leaves of the flowers on the bottom fabric would be nice in a small pattern with white. (or matching the other fabric backgrounds.)

Oh, I see your grays and either would be nice or an in between.

I liked the black until I saw the dark grey, I would do the dark grey with black borders!
