Howdy! Are you from the UP? I had a colleague/good friend from there. Beautiful!

Welcome, I say go for it. You can easily mix FMQ with Quilt-As-You go. I know some people even turn their practice FMQ pieces into small things like mug rugs/coasters. So, it's not really a stretch to add in QAYG. It would be a nice winter activity for you.

The only thing is, you have to do a smidge of preplanning for QAYG. But, where there's a will......

Welcome from MD. You can keep whatever snow you get after the first 10". We got so much last winter, I thought we'd never see green grass or feel the sunshine again. I like a light snow on Christmas Eve, one hunker-down for three days snow in January, and I'm content.

But yes, it makes for great quilting progress. Enjoy getting back into it. I love FMQ but I've not given QAYG a very good try, so can't speak to your question.

Hi Molly, welcome to the board!
Doing a QAYG is a great way to start FMQ. The pieces are smaller so you can get some experience.
I grew up in Utica and lived in Syracuse for many years. Talk about snow!!!!!!
To be totally honest though, I do miss some of it. We hardly get any here.
