For fabric, I would get a bunch of fat quarters in fun patterns. My daughter started sewing at around 8, and she would get overwhelmed working with yardage. I got her some fat quarters and Jelly rolls to get her started. (Walmart or Joanns) And a gift card to pick out some of her own. And a book with precut craft ideas. Also, if her mom is OK with it, youtube is a great resource.
