What a wonderfully unique quilt. Scrappies are my favorites, yet I don't recall ever seeing one like it. Awesome work!

FYI, for future reference, I learned to stop dreading mitered corners when I started glue basting them. Here's what I mean (you have to scroll down about a bit to get to the tute.) http://chrisquilts.net/blog/?p=9413

A very interesting pattern for scraps. Very nice finish. Yes, the mitered corners do add a nice finish that is visually compatible with your quilt.
