It's not uncommon for items to be set aside for a volunteer(s) with specific interests,
to check when they are next in the store, before being put out to the general public.
I know that at Valu Village here, volunteers are not allowed to buy anything until it's been on the floor for a number of days. It's a firing offense.

I have never seen good fabric like this in our charity shops. Occasionally I've seen some at Car Boot sales, but not often.
What is a “car boot sale”?

Our car boots are your trunks I think.

A picture paints a thousand words, so here are some pics.

I have only seen that kind of thing at what are called “swap meets” that are getting less common. At those, you can buy, sell, or literally swap items for other items. You mostly find them out of town, in more rural areas.

Watson
............ maybe at VV, but there are a lot of other thrifts/charities where that is not the case.
One quilter that I know volunteers every Monday. They just know to set aside til she comes in then.
To let her help assess the pricing for things they are uncertain.
But more, so for her to have the first chance. Kind of a volunteer bonus/incentive.

Yes, I know, because she told me.
Believe me, I had a hard time biting my tongue on that one!

Lucky for her, but ..................
