Default How big to make the pillow cover

I don't have the pillow forms so I can't measure ……. but my question is, if I have a 16" form and want to make a quilted pillow cover with a zipper in the middle, what finished size would I make? 16"? or a bit bigger?
Wasn't sure if 16" would be too tight.
Thanks!

Well, you'll have to allow for seam allowances and for putting the zipper in so it would have to be bigger than 16". If you put the zipper in the center of the back that means the back will have to be larger than the front also.

I make small pillow cases and cut them at least an inch all around. They fit well. If you want a larger seam I would add 1-1/2". I don't use zippers, I just use them for smaller pillows and just put on like a bed pillow.

Depends how you like your pillows. I like mine snug so I make them same size
I avoid zippers as much as possible. I prefer to overlap the back.

Thanks EasyPeezy, that answers my question because my main concern was whether making it the same size would make it too snug. I will make it one inch bigger for a bit of give and do an overlap, I'd forgotten about an overlap as an option.

I always cut the same size as the form. Make small seams or even 1/2" and it fits snug with no bagginess. I also take a small amount (maybe 1") graded off each corner to keep the pokiness from happening. Once the form is in (or even stuffing my own) the pillow looks square an the corners are wonderful.

Here is a how-to that explains how to trim down the corners.

You can also use buttons and buttonhole closures for pillows. Lots of fun options.

Have fun stitching!

Also depends on how plump you like your pillow to be, generally I too do the extra inch.

Hello all, I Love making throw pillows, as well as pillowcases for bed pillows. I read somewhere to box the corners and it makes it easier to fill the corners. I tried it and really liked the result. I'm sorry, I don't know the link, but I'm sure, that if you google, "boxed corners on pillow covers" you will find it.
