I agree - JoAnn fabric has disappointed me more often than not, and I use to work there! Some fabric has been okay, but it really depends on what you are working on.

Thanks for the thought of going to Hobby Lobby. I have one locally, but have not bought Kona there.

A Harry Potter quilt is next on my list! That one is for my daughter. I'll have to check out the Sew Fresh Quilts. My daughter is an avid reader, with a gazillion books, so I thought I would make a book shelf quilt with HP objects on it.

I've never heard of Terial Magic. I'm not sure if using a liquid stabilizer is the way I want to go with the Zelda quilt. My first choice is find a fabric that will behave the way I want. Thanks for the info!

Yep, you heard those screams! LOL! The only broadcloth I've used is the poly blend at JoAnn. It's okay, depending on the project, but this quilt will need to be 100% cotton. Is there a broadcloth that is 100% cotton that I should consider?

Thank you for your suggestions, everyone. I'm really curious about the Michael Miller Cotton Couture line. I've found some online, may have to order a small amount to get a real feel of it.
I'm also tempted to just go with the "good" Kona I have that was bought at MSQC (not the ones from JoAnn), and use Best Press as needed.

I'm just itchin' to get sewing this thing! Design and planning has been too long of a process for me, although necessary to get it right. My son is an adult, and plans to display the quilt rather than use it. I know, sigh...

I actually prefer Moda over Kona. I find that Kona creates a lot of dust and is somewhat messy.

I believe broadcloth originally was all cotton but have not seen any at Joanns but have seen it other places. Sorry, memory doesn't always serve well so googling might get your more.

I'm cleaning up my QB threads this morning. I'd like to post a some follow-up info here. I received some very helpful responses when asking about a solid fabric that would work for my project. I wanted a thin cotton fabric that was not cheap thin, if you know what I mean. I went with Michael Miller Cotton Couture, and it is such as dream to work with! There is minimal fraying and such clean, crisp seams.

I am working with 1.25" squares (.75" finished). I reduced the size originally planned because my son wanted more images on the quilt.

This fabric would work beautifully for patterns like Mariner's Compass or NY Beauty, to create really pointy points!

I could not find the fabric line to purchase locally. I bought online from Hancock's of Paducah and Hawthorne's. I am very pleased with Hawthorne. The price per yard is a bit more, but they do not charge any shipping. And they seem to have more variety and yardage in stock. I am still waiting for two back ordered fabrics from Hancock's that I ordered in May. Hawthorne had them, so I ordered through them.
