What a fabulous find. I, too like the sashing. I think that's what the maker would have done back in the day. Do enjoy the journey. You'll have quite the treasure when it's done.
PS: Do wash it in some cool water and Retyne the first time. Some of those old fabrics might bleed, especially the reds.

I am working on my first sample block right now. So far so good. I will post it when it is finished. I was thinking I could use the blocks I make as corner pieces with the boarders would make a nice finish. I am hoping I do not have to put any of my own block in the main body of the quilt.

How lucky can you get!! It will be beautiful. Wish I could get lucky and find something that pretty and the blocks all done!!
