I have been spray basting all my quilts recently as it washes out. I would still use it in a wall hanging as I find it easier to hand quilt without pins and threads.

I, too, am mostly a hand quilter. I usually will pin baste my quilts. If I'm doing a king quilt though I will usually thread baste it as the pins on that size quilt really add to the weight when shifting everything around.

I hand quilt also. I would definitely hand baste also. I use the Sharon Shamber's method (shown on you tube) to stabilize even the biggest quilts. It prevents movement and puckers on the back. She uses a "herringbone" stitch as you will see on you tube.

I always baste for handquilting regardless of the size. There is so much handling of the piece that it will invariably shift on the batting and backing if you don't baste. Enjoy. The thing I love most about handquilting is that I try to take my time and enjoy the process. Stress and quilting don't produce a good project at my house.

I hand quilt ans use Elmer's Washable School Glue. Works really well if you use a light hand.

I just took apart a quilt sandwich that I spray basted and intended to hand quilt. I had a very difficult time "rocking the needle" and getting good even stitches. I took apart the sandwich and washed the back, soaked and gently rinsed the top and replaced the batting. Going to retry with thread basting. Not an easy decision but a very special quilt. I have spray basted small quilts but nothing this double sized.

I would baste it. A big running stitch would be enough.
