Interesting information. I've never had a maching with no speed control. I hope the wood solves your problem.

A friend uses a regular school eraser stuck in the foot pedal to slow it down when her granddaughter sews. Does it always go very fast when you are just sewing a seam (not FMQ)? if so I think you need to talk with maintenance person to see if there is adjustment or new foot pedal needed cause it should be moving at the speed you push on it like a car pedal.

The foot pedal speed is the same with or without free motion. It is easier to sew a straight stitch fast than at the same speed on FMQ. I can't seem to find a balance with my hands and feet when I attempt to FMQ. I can control it by not pressing fully down but I'm not consistent with that and moving my hands. I can see why many people quilt by check. I'm going to keep trying since totally finishing my quilts is why I bought the BL Jazz II for the 12" space needed. Thanks to you all for the suggestions.
