That was my same problem when I had my sewing room in a bedroom. My solution was multiple Ott lights: one for the cutting area, one for the sewing machine area, and one for the pressing area. I always planned on replacing that one domed light with something different, but never got around to it.

My strip light gives off a lot of light too but not directly on the needle behind the needle and on the left side of the needle. And it has a cord to mess with.

I was getting ready to start a light thread on the forum. definitely fond of the 5k light color of led bulbs. I have been looking at machine lights on eBay. I am concerned with shadows that will be difficult to dodge?

As I get older, my need for good light has really increased. So when we built out house, we installed pot lights in the ceiling as well as a light on the ceiling fan. I have a double glass door with great lighting in the daytime. Have strip lighting on both my machines as well as an Ott light available as needed. Allows me to work either day or night without straining my eyes. Very important!

I have the vivilux machine light and I don't have to have any light in a dark room but it. It is that good. Best purchase I've made all year. I bought an extra to have to use while one is charging. A charge last me about 7 hours. I like the idea of no cords especially when going to classes or workshops. Just pop it on the machine and off.

I have found as I've gotten older that I really need more light just to see. If you have an extra lamp, move it over by your sewing machine and it should do the trick for now.

We replaced the regular ceiling light in my quilt room with this fixture:

It was THE BEST thing we could have done!
We had an electrician come to our house thinking we would put some canned LED ceiling lights in my quilt room.
He suggested this option which was much less expensive and an easy fix.

Under the bottom wall shelf (that is above my Bernina machine) are 5 8" led strips. They have regular electrical outlet plugs that are connected to an extension cord and all plug into one outlet. These work great for task lights.

For general lighting, on the ceiling we mounded 7 18" light strips that are plugged into extension cords that are plugged into light-switch-controlled outlets; one flick of a switch and all seven come on. Next time the bulbs need replacing, they'll be changed to led strips. They're mounted above the cutting table, ironing station and 2 desks. There are also some task lights over the 2 desks and led light strip in the throat of one machine. Lot's of light for my changing eye sight.
