Default Singer 99K

I was wondering where the best place to purchase a foot control with a power cord. Also what size LED bulb would work with this machine. Picked her up at a thrift store and its in pretty good condition. Been reading and watching videos and getting so much info. Sometimes it gets confusing, any help would be appreciated. Thank you

My old 99 takes a B15 socket and the cylinder shaped (corn cob LED) bulb work fine. They are sort of encapsuled in solid clear silicone rubber. Make sure it's the narrow type, where the end socket is about the same width as the upper part.

Later 99s often have a round more cone shaped lamp, they can take either threaded or bayonet type bulb sockets (usually E14, but I think some sewing machines take golf ball size E27)

For the narrow slender Singer lamp with a left-righ on-off swich and no glass lens, you can max out on wattage. The bulb cylinder is the same width on them, but longer on high wattage bulbs (more of those square yellow patches). If it takes a round golf ball type bulb, there are different options; some have narrow LED fillaments, others have those square yellow patches.

I have had slight problem with some B15 LED bulbs, I had to grind down the two protruding bits on each side, not much, but they didn't turn in place like the old type bulb did. Some are fine though.

This is just a random ebay add, but it gives a good illustration of the narrow cylinder type bulb.

I purchased a Dritz LED light bulb for my 401 at JoAnn's ($10.00). It didn't fit. Since I didn't keep my receipt, I ended up getting only 50% return credit for the bulb. I bought an old-fashioned bulb, which is the only one they had that fit. It is better than nothing. I'll order a couple of bulbs next time I order something online.

I would suggest you order online at sew-classic.com.

Make sure the three pin plug is identical, model 99 was made for decades and came with slightly different plugs. Most bent wood case versions I have seen had kneelever controller unless it was converted from hand crank (There are plenty 99K hand cranks). The later version with stitch length lever usually has pedal and the later type three pin plug. There are at least tree types.

Beware of the cheap led bulbs from China. I bought one for my Featherweight and it worked for a minute and a half before getting some loose contact or something.
