Just a question, don’t all dressed. Plate blocks have 20 blades? The snowflake block is absolutely beautiful. Thanks for sharing yours.

I think so... which is why my snowflake ends up with 5 peaks. I think real snowflakes have 6 peaks, but oh well... close enough.

I have made tons of dresden blade quilt blocks. If you make the center circle larger, you need more blades.A smaller circle would need fewer ones.

The number of blades in a Dresden Plate block is dependant on the number of degrees in the wedge. A circle has 360 degrees. Divide that by the degrees in the blade to get the number of blades. A 12 degree blade requires 30 blades and an 18 degree blade requires 20 blades.

i have trouble doing all the math to figure out how many blades to make. If I don't have a pattern to follow, I make the blades and then make a circle to fit. It works for me.

i need to add that most of the patterns I use tell me how many blades to make, what size and what size circle. The tool itself comes with a pattern that is useful. Sorry, after reading my reply I realized it made me sound a little crazy.
