I did a similar RWB quilt last year. I did it with straight line walking foot diagonals. Not long arm quilting I know, but it looks rugged and fitting. Masculine.

wow--that is so pretty. either SID or continuous curves on the star blocks--and I'm thinking just some serpentine lines on the R-W-B sashings--like a flag waving.

It's lovely! I have come to realize that just the overall medium stipple or meander makes a quilt look the coziest. With all the fancy quilting you could do, the stipple gives it great texture and makes it look "quilty". If it shrinks in the wash, fancy quilting will be obscured, anyway. So why not just a stipple?

As Iceblossom pointed out, if you meander you can put in some simple stars here and there. That would be cute and echo the quilt design.

It doesn't always have to be complicated to look good.

I don't have an opinion about quilting. I just wanted to say how nice it looks and it fooled me at first. When I first looked, the stars looked 'framed' in the blue & looked bigger than the stars on the tan. Then I realized the stars are the same size and the ones surrounded by blue are not framed, but surrounded by a 4 strip block. It gave that illusion. ...! Your husband should be well pleased and proud of you and his new quilt. Good job!

I can see where a design has you stumped. I think a panto with an Americana theme edge to edge would be so interesting to have over the design. Or a outline of the stars on the star blocks and a mirrored ghost star onto the bars. ?? The design makes it hard to imagine putting anything to interrupt the set forth thoughts.
