I was always taught to press to the dark side but then began trying new things to see how they worked for me. Now in 99 percent of my quilts I press open. I don’t send to a long armer - I do my own quilting on a Brother PQ 1500 in a table and I have had no difficulties with quilting. I like the result of open seams better. With shorter stitch length I can still stitch in the ditch but that is my least favorite way to quilt.

I am part of the "to the dark side" crowd. I have a quilt of 30 blocks that is made of all half-square triangles and did all the pressing to the side. Did lots of spinning but passed on using the hammer!

The same here. "Rules" are meant to be broken, haha. Sometimes I let the block pattern decide which way to press; some will "tell" you which direction to press regardless of to the dark fabric or not.

Nesting is a fun option, I did that with one of my recent quilts and liked the results, but I was taught to press the seams open so it's second nature that all seams are pressed open. It's been a different experience altogether though with the Double Wedding Ring, unless I can discover a workaround, seams have to be pressed to one side or the other.
