The Joann's in Champaign Illinois is a great one. I've never been short changed, the staff is friendly (even though most of the time they are overworked), and even though there's almost always a line at the check out it isn't their fault, it's because there are so many people buying fabric. If you're ever driving down interstate 74 just take Neil St. South and it's about a block off the highway. And their fats even at 1.50 or 1.99 are still cheaper than our fabric stores at 2.50. One of our local fabric stores has "Fat Tuesday" once a year when you can purchase fats at $1.50--- an excellent deal because their fabric is high end. I bought around 60 when that happened a few weeks ago.

:cry: I understand where you are coming from for sure been there and done that even bought facbric about 8yds, and apond pressing it I noticed all these dot's(black) well no recepit of course,took it all back and wanted my money back well mercy that was a job even through the fabric ,wasnt good never never again!!!!!!

I feel for you. I had similar experience bought some bobbins for the machine and found they were the wrong size so swung past the store since I was in the area but didn't have my receipt but because I did't have my receipt they gave me a credit for $2.-- and when I got home saw I had paid over $5. something boy I was really upset. You have my sympathy.
I avoid that place usually but this was a big mistake.

I am kind of stuck. If I want to go to Joanns the closest one is about 12 miles one way. It is a mess. Corporate must think that we don't matter and that we can just go elsewhere if we don't like it. THe problem is there are no other fabric stores around. Only one of the 4 Wal-marts within a reasonable distance to me carries fabric anymore. Today I went for my semi annual visit to my specialist at Johns Hopkins in Baltimore. There is a super Joanns on my way home. It is a wonderful store. Clean, well orgainzed and even has a take a number thing for the cutting table. I was disappointed since they didn't have any quilt fabric in their clearance section. There were also very few sales. I have noticed that while they may advertize %30 off of children's prints and novelities and the sign says starting at $3.99 a yard there were no bolts marked at that price and only a few at $4.99. That particular store does a booming business in home decor, custom drapery making etc. They even had classes and a classroom. It is a good hour drive for me so I don't get there often. There is another such Joanns in York, Pa. which is again a little over an hour for me. This thursday through monday an AMish store called Sauder's is having their annual sale. They have fantastic prices all of the time but at this sale you will be able to buy a whole bolt of good quilting cotton for $1.99 a yard. It is almost two hours away for me. They also will have lots of QS quality fabrics at fantastic prices. It is not unusual to see bus loads go there. My friends and I from the local Linus Chapter are carpooling there.

i read most of these complaints about joann's partly agreeing and partly disagreeing. i work for joann's and they watch us like a hawk about giving an extra THREAD more than what you ask for! they say this is 'shrink' but i think it is just good PR to be sure to give the customer what they pay for. we HATE the buy one/get one sales because they do give you the lower priced items free, and not a matching BO-GO. just make it 50% off and it is easier for everyone. some of the younger 'help' we have had hired at our location is because the store gets some kind of credit for hiring someone who is on welfare or food stamps or whatever. those of us who have been there for a while, hope for the best and brace ourselves for the worst. i get paid just over minimum wage with verrrrry poor benefits that I pay for. on black Friday it was hours and hours before i heard a 'thank you' from anyone. we got a new computer system over a year ago and there are still bugs in the system that we fight with every day. we are under a lot of pressure from 'corporate' over every little thing, and are being given conflicting rules to follow every time our district manager comes in. PLEASE don't lump us all together.

I go to JoAnn's at least once a week. I have two that are near me and both of them have wonderful folks who know me and mention when I haven't been in for a while that they missed me. I haven't had any problems with their fabrics. I don't buy any of their bargain fabrics because they are not good quality. I'm sorry that so many of you have had problems. Never had any problems with the coupons, either. Interesting.

I go to Joanns but I scrutinize the fabric closely before I buy it. I have only returned fabric once - and I didn't even know that you could until I witnessed a customer return some. (I returned some of their black country classic fabric as I started buying Kona - and there's no comparison.) You can return if you haven't cut into it yet.

I have no expectations of their being able to answer any technical questions I might have. I have stopped buying yards and yards of clearance fabrics because I can't tell for sure, but, it looks like I'm being overcharged, I usually buy only with coupons as I'm one of the millions who are unemployed. You can use the same value coupon for different things if they are from different media ... the mailer, the Sunday paper, email, etc.

I am currently in the "middle" of trying to get something ironed out regarding the coupons with Joanns, but, they seem to have abandoned me. I will move to snail mail and see if I might have better luck and will post what I find out. Unfortunately I don't think I will be able to locate my original post - guess I've been unemployed too long and my brain is beginning to rust.

Love Sauders. A quilting friend and I and spouses take an annual trip there in June and go to many of the stores in the area. The back of the van is full to the roof by the time we make our way home. Wonderful. Have you gone to Burkholders or Weavers?

It is easy to see both sides of this issue. Several years ago the nearest Joann's had experienced and friendly clerks, but now they are almost all college kids who are careless and less than helpful. Without a lot of choices in my area you have to watch, know what you want, and not need a lot of assistance.

I live in Florida and I too avoid Joannes. They are rude. Asking for for help is like asking god to com to tea. Ask them about how much fabic I would need and their answer is I am her to cut fabric and thats it. thanks a lot. They never cut the right amount. I go to the quilt store or since my wal mart still cares fabric go there. Once they would accept mycoupon since I cut it out of the book. I emailed the company and never got a reply. The one in Ohio bends backwards to help you save money or find something. I am with you gals on this one.
