Have you ever put sewing supplies in a gift box for Samaritans Purse? I'm considering doing that for a girl aged 10-12.

I would be careful as sharp objects are not allowed

I agree with the caution about sharp items. I am wondering if a small plastic canvas kit or a kit and directions for the star would work. Check with the general directions for the organization.

I overheard a lady a couple years ago that she makes sewing kits every year for shoe boxes. She orders in quantity and several friends get together and pack the shoebox on plastic boxes. Thought it was a great idea.
