It's lovely, Tartan. Is this for yourself or as a gift?

I do the same thing. Use it as a bowl hot pad. Warm your food in the microwave. Take it to and put the dish in the cozy. So many food items spit and spill over while heating that it reduces the clean up or washing of the cozy.

I had made and given them to a few people a couple of years ago. When my adult son opened his, he put it on his head and thought it was a beany.

Love your cozy. I made many for family and friends. Wouldn’t have given them away until I tried them in the microwave myself. I Ordered 10 yards of wrapnzap on line. Then being I knit and crochet I decided to crochet one with 100% cotton yarn. Haven’t made a fabric one since. they work up quickly and give me something to do at night or during Packer football games. Go Pack! These can be folded and tucked in a drawer. I’ve tried several ways to launder them and all worked. Took them out of washer and dried over inverted bowl, or stretched them back into shape and pinned from 2 corners on a hanger and unintentionally dried with towels. Thought I ruined it but alas I I just pulled it back into shape and it was good as new. Found the pattern on Pinterest.
