My GGMA made yoyo and two sided hexie quilts for summer quilts. She also would use matching fabric for the back and tie them. I do not remember her ever doing a tied quilt with batting.

I'm working on a summer quilt. I was considering using the Hobbs silk batting. Anyone have experience with it?

I use Quilter's Dream "Dream Orient" for summer quilts. Is contains silk, bamboo, eucalyptus and cotton. It is very lightweight, cool in the summer but warm enough for winter,

I'm in Houston, TX and have used flannel for batting on a lot of things. It's just too hot here and a quilt with regular batting would only get used 3 months out of the year!

Thanks for the tip, Cheryl! I hadn't seen that batting before.

I'm talking about using a single layer here. It's cheap, and it's sold by the yard right off a bolt just like fabric. Google it on line. If you can't find it cheap, PM me and I'll give you my source. Don't even think you have to buy it from England, although they use a lot of it there because it's good stuff and cheap. (England may come up first on the web.) I know because I used to live there. It's a material that's seriously underused and poorly understood in the States.

What exactly is diaper material? I typed it in Google and got si many results. Is it like an athletic fabric? Lyrica? Wool?

I think they're referring to birdseye cotton, which most diapers were made of when I was young. Birdseye is a type of weave.

Here's an etsy listing with a good picture. https://www.etsy.com/listing/8171286...4813ea27bbd390

I have 2 'summer quilts' also called coverlets that my grandmother made, probably in the 1940's-just a pieced top and muslin backing

I am trying to decide about putting anti-pill plush fleece for the backing on a t-shirt quilt I am making for grandson's graduation. It would have no batting. I think it should work as the fleece seems quite substantial. Hope it works.
