    Default Shirt Quilts

It took the better part of a year for me to be able to cut into my late husband's shirts to make quilts for our two sons and two grandsons. My talented sister and mom travelled 16 hours to come and work on the quilts. We made all four quilts in nine days, two of the cotton pieced quilts for my sons and the rag quilts are made from flannel and heavy cotton for the grandkids. We used mostly the backs and sleeves for the quilts so I still have shirt fronts to use for aprons and pillows.

What a wonderful project to do with family members and what memories both of you late husband and the shared quilting time. Your family will treasure these quilts.

Thank you for your kind comments. I'm sorry the pictures of the quilts didn't come through, not sure what went wrong. I really miss the old QuiltingBoard format. :-(

What a wonderful thing to do as a remembrance. How nice of your mom and sister to be with you and help. It's been 7 years since my dad passed away, and I still can't bear to cut up his shirts. Maybe someday.

Sounds like working with your Mom and Sister was nice.

    You were really busy!

My condolences on the loss of your husband, Slow2Sew. I know how difficult it must have been to face the prospect of tackling this project. I hope you are able to post the photos so we can all share in their beauty. I am sure they will be a comfort to your family.

I'm sorry for your loss. I was also widowed and it took me a long time to get over it. You are so blessed that your mom and sister were there to help you make these quilts. I hope they bring comfort to your sons and grandsons. That was a beautiful thought to share with them.
