The Stencil Company and other places have preprinted whole cloth quilt tops. One of my classes used one of the small size ones to practice free motion quilting.

I graduated from the Fall 2020 Cohort of HollyAnne Knight's FMQA. I took the plunge and gave myself a birthday present and started on a 12 week journey. I was not even able to do a meander when I started but with HollyAnne's instructions and encouragement I finished. You make a sampler quilt with 30 motifs and then design and quilt a wholecloth quilt at least the size of a fat quarter. If you go to her YouTube channel you can find videos of the graduation projects completed, some are simple others very elaborate. The nice thing about her program is if you don't finish in 12 weeks you roll into the next group/groups until you do graduate at no additional cost and you have access to all the learning videos forever. I have attached my sampler and wholecloth as examples. There are lots of classes and videos that are out there but this one clicked for me.

Three Dog Night: thanks for sharing! Your work is amazing.

I’m planning to enroll in Holly’s class this fall. I took a FMQ class from Harriet Hargrave years ago but it didn’t stick. I like the idea of a virtual class where I am learning in my own space.

Cindy Needham specializes in exactly this. She does whole cloth quilts sometimes incorporating linens on a home machine. I took a workshop from her and did a lavender whole cloth quilt , won a prize at the fair with it. She’s an excellent teacher. Check out her Facebook page and website. She has two Craftsy classes which will take you through the steps needed to make a whole cloth quilt.

I have this project in a list for the future. Agree with all the recommendations but it can be done on a domestic machine. I quilt all my own quilts and before I got my Brother PQ1500 I used a dinky mechanical Brother from Costco. Nothing fancy and small area to work with. It took some maneuvering but I was only quilting the space under the needle anyway. Keep us posted on your progress!!
