I took early retirement in 2004 and went to help our church quilters. I always sewed but had very little experience in quilts. Their quilts, sorry to say, were pretty bad.
We moved away and I joined our new church quilt group and life got better. We have a generous budget and good equipment. I’ve been worried as some of the quilters have health issues and can’t come anymore but just lately we have seen more join.
All our quilts are donated locally.

I enjoy retreating into my sewing room and working in the silence. It's like a mini-vacation. A quilt is a fabric puzzle -- I get to design it and put it together as I wish. I also appreciated the comment about scrap quilts being like getting "something for nothing." I, too, find great satisfaction in using up small odds and ends of fabric and coming up with something that's as beautiful as it is useful.

I'm the creative type...always have been. Can't really draw or paint, so I stick to what I can do and that is needle work and quilting. Besides it gives me a reason to pull my hair out at times!! LOL

I also like making baby quilts as well as placemats, hot pads, etc. I make all the guys in the family boxers. Sewing is relaxing (for the most part). I have been fighting ovarian cancer for 6 years and sewing just mends the soul.

Like others, retirement and a space to tap into the creative soul! Keeps my mind active and a space to decorate that shows a little bit of who I am on the inside! Which is a room full of sewing machines and bright colors apparently!
