Question Abbreviations

Is there a list/FAQ or something similar for standard quilting abbreviations? Y'see, I had a stroke awhile back and while I got most of my "brain" stuff back, I do have an ongoing language deficit still. One minute I know what XYZ abbreviation means and the next it's a total blank. But generally when I google, say, UFO the meaning that comes back has NOTHING to do with quilting. I'm thinking newbies must have a similar problem, so maybe there already IS such list and I just haven't found it yet.

Anyhow, can someone point me in the right direction? It is so FRUSTRATING to know that you know something perfectly well and just cannot remember it! I've been sewing since 8th grade and now I'm 75 so I really do know this stuff--just not today. Grrrr.

Thanks for any help you can offer.

When I first joined this board I posted the same question! Bearisgray helped me out by pointing to this thread:
Quilter's Dictionary & Acronyms ... a consolidation of previous posts

"Flimsy" meaning an unquilted top was new to me, while I came across it on the board had never heard it used prior to coming here.

Me too, I always thought of flimsy as a perjorative --"that fabric is too flimsy to stand up to washing".

Some of these are not used to often in my neck of the woods (my brain) but this is helpful all the way around.

When I came to this Board last year after being away from quilting for almost 20 years, the acronym that initially stumped me was DSM. 20 years ago, no quilter I knew had anything other than a domestic sewing machine unless they did commercial longarming. Times have certainly changed.

Is the list of acronyms still being updated? I see AQ commonly used for Accuquilt on this Board, but it isn’t in the list.

I never knew this existed but sure glad it was repeated here on the board. I would say it will be very helpful to me. I printed the whole thing off so I can out it on my wall of the sewing room.
Thanks for sharing.

Thanks Everyone!!! *blush* .... I posted the list way back, as like many of you, at times was totally stymied with some of the alphabet soup!! One of my mis-interpretations had been LQS. I kept thinking Longarm Quilters Society, and then found out it it was for Local Quilt Store!! Too funny!!!

So, I started to collect any and every list I spotted and kept them handy next to the computer. Eventually, I decided to merge and post for others' benefit . My goodness, I see that is almost ten years ago. Since then, there have been some extras included throughout that thread.

Tell you what ..... I'll work on an updated version and post it for the tenth anniversary.

But first .......... please everyone, I need your help to make it happen!
Please post acronyms you would like added, here on this thread or on the original thread, and I will include them for you.

Meanwhile, I will start working on the cleanup project for my list and notes.

Thanks for setting up the list before, QuiltE and taking on the chore of updates. Bear had some more good stuff in a blog thing that maybe didn't getting moved to new forums. In case she can help out, here's a link to my question thread mentioning/linking the location to her post.

When I posted my thread this was part of it:
I might put together one for my reference eliminating the standard internet usage terms since I have those down pretty well... plus a few that are missing like E2E (EtE??) for edge to edge, or RxR/Row by Row, and a few others that maybe are regional or not wide spread yet.

edit: One of my favorite acronyms on the list that was forgotten but I've been using again lately is PiGS (Projects in Grocery Sacks) -- someone on the board used it recently and it just set me laughing

Saved this compilation to a file in documents. At first I printed it. Then realized I didn't have anyplace to put it and remember where I put it. In one of those special places.

Is there something for
Brain Fart
Old Ladies Syndrome
Senior Moment
Hot Flash
My Own Personal Summer
It's hiding somewhere
Now, where did I put that?
WIC: NOT women, infant and chidren supplemental nutrition program where I worked for 14+ yrs but it's -walk in closet. In my dreams, having this much storage for stash. Mine would need to be the size of a room, or maybe that's hoarding.

Some suggestions

This is so wonderful, I could go on and on. How long did you want to keep working on this?
